I do wish there was some special animation (ala Far Cry Instincts) when you got a good solid stealth kill from behind. Yeah I’ve totally snuck around at night killing people. I just had to retrain myself to not aim or to switch to the Uzi for close up fighting. The early weapons condition you to aim even at close range, so it’s almost a default move to do it with the AR-16. I do agree about the scoped mode being disorienting at times. The AK was fine, but as the game progressed my sense was that the enemies got tougher, requiring more and more hit to take down with that gun.

According to the stats, it does more damage and is more accurate, so I think that makes up for the lack of a full-auto mode. The three round burst is plenty for head shots, plus you can hit the button a few times to take a guy down if necessary. It’s a decent sniper rifle and works in a firefight. I liked it because of its dual capability. I also found going into scoped view repeatedly in a firefight somewhat disorienting though strangely that didn’t bother me for similar weapons in STALKER. I don’t see much point in semi-auto in FarCry 2 because ammo is plentiful and if I aim for center of mass I can drop the enemy before recoil brings the weapon too high anyway. I probably just suck at aiming but the three round burst wasn’t consistently putting enemies down whereas a short burst from the AK is usually enough to take enemies out.

Mainly because of the semi-auto nature, I think.

I only played around with the AR-16 a bit but it didn’t work well for me.
